Communities We Serve – Lenexa, KS

Lenexa, Kansas is located approximately 12 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1869, the city now has a population of more than 50,000 residents and nearly as many commuters who come to Lenexa to work. Lenexa is known for its strong business base, including a wide variety of high tech and bio-science businesses who call the city home.

pexelsThere is no dispute that the residents of Lenexa are in love with their city. Lenexa was ranked leader in the Kansas City metro area in overall citizen satisfaction. According to the latest survey, 97% of Lenexa residents are happy with the services the city offers and 92% say they are satisfied with the quality of life. Recognized as one of the Best Places to Raise Kids by Bloomberg BusinessWeek, and one of the Best 100 Places to Live by CNN Money Magazine’s, and was named a finalist for the prestigious All-America City Award.

“City of Festivals” at Lenexa

Known as the City of Festivals, Lenexa hosts many different celebrations and events every year and those celebrations attract visitors from the greater metropolitan area and elsewhere. Our wonderful neighbors in Lenexa are drawn to the city because it is an attractive and safe city, rich with history and a strong hometown sense of community spirit. Lenexa has a solid reputation as a leader in local government initiatives such as public safety, development, festivals, communication and technology. Its well-established and beautiful neighborhoods and commercial developments, gorgeous parks and trails, and quality roads and other infrastructure are only a few of the things Lenexa has to offer Kansas!

Lenexa City Center and the Public Market

Lenexa City Center is a new and exciting mixed-use neighborhood located at the intersection of 87th Street Parkway and Renner Boulevard, adjacent to Interstate 435. The City Center touts walkability, density, sustainability and community, while offering a unique twist on urban community.

Opening in mid-2017 at City Center, the Lenexa Public Market will be a year-round indoor food market offering fresh foods and locally sourced goods. Lenexa is eagerly seeking merchants to fill the market. The goal is to establish a convenient and welcoming place to “grab a meal with a friend, buy artisan products, pick up a gift, or relax with a cool beverage.” Located inside City Hall, the Lenexa Public Market will be the only fully indoor public marketplace in the Kansas City area. The market is looking to lease space to owner-operated businesses that feature fresh foods and artisanal products. The market will be a lively place for residents to get together, to showcase the community’s character through food, drink and locally-sourced goods, while providing many great opportunities for local entrepreneurs to build, grow or expand their businesses.

Location, location, location!

The Lenexa Public Market is planned to be part of the City of Lenexa’s new civic campus currently under construction at Lenexa City Center. The campus will include a new city hall, recreation center and, ultimately, the Johnson County library branch. Lenexa City Center is a 3.5-million-square-foot mixed-use expansion that will ultimately feature a mix of housing, shops, offices and entertainment venues on more than 200 acres. The Lenexa Public Market facility and amenities will include:

  • Common area and outdoor seating
  • Free parking on street or in 500-stall garage
  • Public restrooms maintained by the city
  • Loading dock and stock/storage space
  • Events space with test/demo kitchen (1,525 sq. ft.) and seating for up to 50 people
  • Opportunity to cater city events
  • Access to 40-person conference room
  • Outdoor public plaza area with stage
  • Companion outdoor seasonal farmers’ market (opening in 2018)

man-people-space-desBusiness estate planning encompasses business formation strategies

Business formation and business succession planning can be complicated legal issues, due to the various tax issues involved, especially with family-owned businesses. Although a Limited Liability Company (LLC) may be the preferred business entity because of its flexibility and simplicity, there are other options to consider as well. A Kansas business planning attorney can help you to determine the best business entity to meet your specific needs, depending on your goals and business status.

There are many tools from which family-owned or small business owners can choose in order to accomplish their estate planning goals. Some of those tools include: Family Limited Partnerships & LLCs, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Personal Residence Trusts, and Joint Accounts or Joint Ownership. Which planning instrument will best meet your family’s business goals is something you can discuss with your business planning attorney.

If you have questions regarding small business, or any other business planning matters, contact Gaughan & Connealy for a consultation either online or by calling us at (913) 262-2000.
