Gladstone, Missouri Elder Resources

Our law firm is tightly focused on elder law and estate planning issues, because the two areas blend into one another. We work closely with seniors in our area, and Gladstone, Missouri residents can easily reach our office.

You should certainly discuss the future with a licensed elder law attorney, because you may not know it, but your legacy could be at risk. However, if you take the right steps, you can preserve the inheritances that you always intended to leave to your loved ones.

LongTermCare.gov

One of the best elder resources on the internet is a website called LongTermCare.gov, which is maintained by the United States Department of Health and Human Services. They want people to be prepared for this looming threat, and they use this site to pass along key facts.

There is a particular statistic that they highlight that is especially attention-getting. About seven out of every 10 senior citizens will need living assistance eventually. A significant percentage of them will reside in nursing homes toward the end of their lives.

Medicare

Every senior citizen should have a thorough understanding of the Medicare program. If you have any questions at any time, you can visit the Medicare website to find answers and contact information.

It is very important to understand the fact that this program will not pay for a stay in a nursing home. This is considered to be custodial care rather than convalescent care, so it is not covered.

Medicaid

Long-term care is very expensive, and if you are married, your family could eventually face two separate barrages of nursing home bills. Fortunately, there is a solution in the form of Medicaid. It will pay for long-term care, and you can explore Medicaid.gov to get all the details.

Clay County Senior Services

Gladstone is located in Clay County here in Missouri, and there are some very useful countywide senior services available to locals. Clay County Senior Services can help you find adult day care, transportation, home repairs, in-home care, Meals on Wheels, and more.

Alzheimer’s Association

Many seniors require nursing home care because they have contracted Alzheimer’s disease. You may be surprised to hear that it strikes approximately 40% of people who are in their mid-80s and older. In addition to the victims themselves, it is also a difficult experience for their families.

There is a very valuable resource that can be of great assistance in the form of the Alzheimer’s Association. They have a national organization, and they have regional chapters. If you live in Gladstone, the Heart of America chapter is always there for you. In addition to the information on their website, they operate a helpline around the clock, and the number is 800-272-3900.

Elder Law & Estate Planning Workshops

You can obtain a great deal of information that is very relevant to senior citizens if you attend one of our workshops. We enjoy getting out into the community to help educate the public, and our attendees consistently give us very positive feedback.
