When should I review my estate plan?
A good rule of thumb is to review your estate plan every three to five years, or sooner if something major changes.
You should review your plan after a death, divorce, marriage, birth or adoption, serious diagnosis, major financial change, move to another state, change in tax law, or if one of your trustees, executors, agents, or beneficiaries is no longer the right fit.
Sometimes the answer after a review is, “Everything still looks good.” That is a great result. Estate planning does not always need to be exciting. In fact, boring is often beautiful.
