Communities We Serve – Lee’s Summit, MO

We would like to thank you for visiting our website. If you are looking for a licensed estate planning attorney in Missouri, you have found a reliable local resource. Ranked 27th on CNN and Money magazine’s 2010 list of the “100 Best Cities to Live in the United States,” Lee’s Summit has a population of approximately 91,364. As such, it is the sixth-largest city in the state of Missouri.

The many awards and recognitions earned by Lee’s Summit

trophyIn addition to being one of the best cities to live in, Lee’s Summit has been the recipient of many awards and recognitions.  In 2015, Lee’s Summit was ranked No. 1 by Zippia on a list of “The 10 Happiest Mid-Sized Cities in America” and No. 4 of the 10 Best Cities to Live in the Midwest. Lee’s Summit’s Fiscal Year 2013 budget received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, which is the highest recognition in governmental budgeting. The city has received this significant honor for the past 25 years.

What does downtown Lee’s Summit have to offer?

Downtown Lee’s Summit has an exceptional variety of more than 40 specialty retail shops and many options for entertainment and casual dining.  And, with the recently completed streetscape project, the downtown area has been transformed with new street lights, banners, trees, and landscaping. In fact, in 2010, Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street was chosen as a Great American Main Street Award Winner by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Lee’s Summit’s electric car charging station

The Parking Garage close to Lee’s Summit’s City Hall offers an electric vehicle car charging station, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy award as part of an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant project administered by Metropolitan Energy Center.

Lee’s Summit provides downtown Wi-Fi for residents and visitors

The Wi-Fi Lee’s Summit network generously provides free, high-speed, wireless internet to downtown Lee’s Summit. Users located within the coverage area are able to connect to Wi-Fi Lee’s Summit by selecting the SSID LSWiFi from the list of available wireless networks on their electronic devices. The program provides every user two hours of free internet connection each day.

This beneficial Wi-Fi network service was created and funded by a partnership between Lee’s Summit Downtown Main Street, Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council and the City of Lee’s Summit. However, Wi-Fi Lee’s Summit depends on the support of local businesses who host repeaters, which are small electronic devices that extend the range of the Wi-Fi Lee’s Summit signal.

We are here to help residents of Lee’s Summit with their estate planning

Estate planning is one way to prepare yourself and your family for death and even for the possibility of incapacity during your lifetime.  There are several different options when it comes to estate planning tools.  Which ones are best for you will depend on your unique goals for the future.  Your Missouri estate planning attorney can help.

Be prepared for possible incapacity with an estate plan

The legal definition of incapacity is the ability to comprehend the consequences of certain legal proceedings, including entering into contracts or signing legal documents.  Incapacity could be caused by either a physical or mental condition and can be temporary or permanent.  Now, when it comes to estate planning matters, incapacity refers to the ability of an individual to manage his or her own affairs and to make important legal decisions for themselves.  Without an appropriate estate plan that addresses incapacity issues, you could end up being appointed a court-supervised conservator or guardian.

Determine how your estate will be handled after your death

The other purpose of estate planning is to create a plan for handling your estate after your death.  One of the primary estate planning instruments used to establish what to do with your assets after your death is the Last Will and Testament, or will for short.  A will is essentially a set of written instructions on how your estate should be distributed after your death.  A will can also provide a way for you to nominate a guardian for your minor children.  A disadvantage of a will, however, is that your estate must go through the probate process before your assets can be distributed. As experienced estate planning attorneys, we can recommend an estate planning strategy that meets all of your family’s needs.

If you have questions regarding trusts or any other estate planning matters, please contact the experienced attorneys at Gaughan & Connealy for a consultation. You can contact us either online or by calling us at (816) 974-3030. We are here to help!
