What is the difference between a trustee and an executor?
A trustee manages assets held in a trust. An executor, sometimes called a personal representative, handles assets that go through probate under a will.
A trustee usually acts under the trust document. An executor usually acts under court authority.
Both roles involve fiduciary duties. That means the person in charge must act responsibly, keep records, communicate appropriately, and follow the legal documents and applicable law.
